I noticed the new community portal at joomla.org this weekend.

I would love to know what the value of this site is. I was not impressed.

All this site appears to be is a listing of links and a Feedbuner RSS feed portal for other sites to feed from. All this portal does is break up the former news items into separate categories. But did anyone notice that they took away the ability for the COMMUNITY to submit news items?
There is no REAL news section any longer.

Looks to me like the folks at joomla.org took the COMMUNITY out of the wrongly named community portal. I find this very strange and disturbing. Maybe the former news section was too much maintenance. but wouldn't it be nice to hear something about this first?

This site appears to be only a way to self promote their own hosted JoomlaDay events, internal team recruitment, and RSS feed postings to better their site rankings.

I feel that Joomla just doesn't think about the community at all when they make changes like this. It appears to me that in the past year, Joomla is more worried about their own interests and self centered ideals. This is the type of behavior that upsets the community that supports a great piece of software. If the current direction of the Joomla team keep this ongoing direction and momentum I foresee a lot of people leaving the Joomla community for a stronger and more community friendly software management team at another project.

Someone please tell me I'm wrong. But I highly doubt it.
